Default Oregon State University Scuba Survey

A student at Oregon State University is doing a survey about scuba. If
you have a few moments, your help with this survey would be greatly
appreciated. It takes about two minutes to complete. The survey is
online at:

http://www.aj83.com/scuba.html

Thank you

Are you kidding? Why not host it on an OSU site instead of some
anonymous location? Trojaned?

Trojaned? Is that what college kids are calling sex these days?

I would understand the OSU very well if they rejected it on their
servers.

The survey has a lot of problems in it's design :

* A strong tilt towards beginners, when you state you want to measure
perseverance.
* No way to establish control groups or to check significance in any way.
* Lots of preconceived notions, like the "ranking" with divemaster at top.
(Have you hugged your shark today).
* Almost no attempts at quantifications.
* Ambigous wording throughout. "Experienced", what do people actually mean
when they say that.

I have tried to do surveys myself, and find severe problems just getting
a good fix on 1) the number of active divers 2) dive activity. And that
is just the control group.

Hello,

I am one of the students who created this survey. I would just like to
inform you that this survey was created for an undergraduate course
entitled recreation research methods. So, this is the first experience
we have had creating a survey and doing research on this scale. This is
definitely a learning experience for us, and we know are survey is not
perfect. The results will only be used for our class and are not being
published.

Thanks to anyone who took the survey.

So, tell us;

What are you going to use the "results" for?

So, you're not interested in learning to do surveys right?

The results will be used for nothing more than our class.
And I am interested in learning to do surveys right, I have gotten many
good suggestions on how to improve the survey, and will take them into
consideration when reviewing our work.

Also, as of tonight the *survey has ended*

Good luck with the research class.

But don't conclude from the rude comments of several people here that
all divers are sociopaths. Rec.scuba just gets more than its share.
