Carol's cousin wore his helmet whenever he was riding. One afternoon
he got on to move his bike about a hundred feet not wearing a helmet.
The bike got away from him for a second and he died 8 hours later. It
popped up, he came off the back and hit a curb. Basil skull fracture.

You're replying to one of the cowardly anonymous fucks... Damn, Dillon,
I thought you had more pride than that!

Moving the bike 100 ft and it "got away from him" and "popped up"?
Sounds like he was doing a bit more than just moving it...

Personally, I do not believe in requiring adult riders to wear
helmets... It interferes with natural selection... Of course, I always
wear a full coverage helmet and that's probably why I'm still around...
My experience is that if you can keep the head in one piece, they can
pretty much glue the rest of the body back on it after the accidents...

Head injuries are the leading cause of death in car wrecks too, but no one
is pushing a helmet law for drivers.

Seatbelt laws, mandatory head rests, air bags, safety glass, and a host of
other laws help prevent head injuries.

Perhaps they should require seatbelts on motorcycles instead of helmets.
I'll lobby my local congressman.

I won't dignify my stupid response with a stupid response. Just call
me a dumb fuck, everybody else does and most of them live to talk
about it.

I never wore a helmet while riding a bicycle. Nor did most of us.

You're right, you pays your money, you takes your chances.

I still don't wear a helmet while riding a bicycle... If I was into
mountain biking, I might find one more useful... I do wear a helmet
with motorcycles though... Technically, one could just as easy kill
one's self with a head injury on a bicycle, but my experience from the
various bike wrecks that I had as a kid have shown that I'm usually
moving slow enough that my arms absorb most of the impact...

> You're right, you pays your money, you takes your chances.

Yep... I probably started wearing a full coverage helmet because I
didn't like the taste of bugs... After a couple of rocks hitting me
square in the faceplate, I decided that I wouldn't like those either...
After having a section the size of a saucer ground off of the helmet in
a wreck and no damage to my head in the process, I actually got to
really appreciate them...

Death is Nature's way of saying "slow down"...

But a helmet prevents sticking a cell phone in your ear.

Depends upon the type of helmet... I don't see that the typical "brain
pan" type helmets that are popular with the bikers who only wear a
helmet because they're legally required would prevent someone from
using a normal cell phone since the ear is completely exposed... A full
coverage helmet would prevent normal cell phone usage, but it would not
prevent someone having their helmet wired with ear pieces and a
microphone... I suspect that if they created such a law, the next day
someone would be selling either a helmet or an adapter kit that would
plug into the cell phone headset plug and allow the use of the cell
phone while driving... There might even be something like that right
now for motorcycle helmets -- I haven't checked... There are some radio
headsets for communication among a group of riders that some riders
use... I believe that they use FRS radios, which would give them a
range of perhaps a mile or two -- good enough for riding together as
long as you don't get *too* spread apart... The biggest complaint that
I would have about requiring the wearing of a helmet in a car would be
the heat associated with it since you don't have a high velocity
airstream to make it bearable... Easy enough to fix that with a cold
air injection to the helmet, but that's only on the higher end
helmets... Maybe they would come down in price once you had that many
potential customers though...

The biggest complainers would be the women who wouldn't want to be
messing up their hair... Guys like myself don't have enough hair to
matter...
