Default New Hampshire, USA diving

Greetings,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any decent diving areas in the Concord,
Laconia, Barnstead, Lake Winnipasakee area. (not sure I spelled that name
right, but anyway)....
I know the lake is diveable, just need more details as to where, depths,
what, wrecks, etc.
And, I know the ocean is just to the east. I've never dove up north and just
don't know where is where.
(We are in South Florida) Spoiled by the tropical waters.

Thank you so much for your time,

Adam

Adam,

Nubble lighthouse in York, Maine is one of the most popular spots.

there are also spots on Cape Ann Mass.

Thank you, Bob.

I will forward yours and olddivers messages to my e-mail so I have them up
north.
That train wreck dive at Lake Winnepasaukee looks tempting.
It would be cool to dive Nubble lighthouse as well.

I really appreciate it.
Regards,

Adam

Close. Winnipesaukee. The river that joins the Winnipesaukee to form the
Merrimack River is the Pemigewasset, but everyone in the state will understand
if you just say "Pemi" which is really easy to spell. For some reason the
nickname "Winni" isn't nearly as common.

Several years ago the nearest dive shop was in Laconia, and I expect they'll be
your best source of information. You also might be able to hook up with the
local dive club. There's a wreck (I think it may be one of the old "Mount
Washington" tour boats) that's commonly done in the winter as an ice dive,
because there are a lot of power boats in summer, many of which are rentals
being operated by vacationers from NYC who can't drive a car let alone a boat.
If you want to dive Winnipesaukee you'll probably want to have a lot of trust in
your navigational abilities so you can come back up your anchor line.

Newfound Lake, several miles to the west has far fewer boats, but also has fewer
wrecks (certainly no big ones). About 2/3 of the way up the west side of the
lake there are some cliffs (known as "The Ledges") that continue below the
surface, making it one of the deeper areas.

If you're going to be in the Concord area you'll be almost as close to the ocean
as to the lakes area, and there will probably be more interesting diving in the
ocean.

Thanks, Steve.

Well, I figure since the Native American's that name the lakes didn't have
formal "English" Class in school, I can't really expect to spell their words
so easily.
There's always the internet to research the spellling, but by the
end....end...end of the day, I could let it slide.

I appreciate the feedback on the diving areas.
Good wisdom about the "rental" boats at Winnipesaukee. I will remember that.
There is a train wreck up there I am interested in.
I heard there is an engine and a few cars. Will have to check with the local
dive shops.

Have a great summer,

Adam
