| A while back James Connell wrote that there is diving in eastern Washington near I-90 at some kind of missle silo. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about this. Is it for real? Can you dive there? Where is it? While I'm at it, I'm still looking for any leads to interesting freshwater diving in Washington. Actually, it doesn't even have to be really interesting at all. Just legal and reasonably safe. I wrote the Wash. Dept. of State Parks twice about diving from lake shores in state parks (is it allowed, etc.) and never got a response. Sheesh. Is it my long-winded writing style...? Thanks. -Evans Winner |

The only diver I know who lives over there likes to dive here (Seattle-Puget Sound). Why on earth would anyone want to dive in a missle silo? -- "C'mon, you sons of bitches, you want to live forever?" -Sergeant Major Dan Daly |

| Evans, The missile silos are in the TriCities area. I've not done this, but I know many people that have. Come to think of it, I will be in TriCities next month, maybe I'll look into it. Friends have told me that it's a very unusual site. http://www.northwestdiver.com/features/2003/0120-1.php Here ya go... The access tunnel to the silo is almost full ( about chest high depend on season) when i was there no lites in place. main danger was entanglement, you (almost)never are truly in a "water to the ceiling" place. |

I know you are looking in Washington but here is a map of the one in Texas: http://www.texasdiver.com/images/mp-valhalla_1.jpg As you can see it's not really an overhead environment. If the one you are looking for is similar it shouldn't be a problem. |

I just have a perverse facination with the idea of fresh water diving. I would imagine this is a sure sign of being spoiled by all the good salt-water diving right here. Once I actually do some real fresh water diving I will most likely get over it. The silo thing sounds like scary overhead diving anyway. Out of my league. -Evans Winner |
