Diving in St Thomas / St. John was good. There's a reef between the two islands (which are only 1-3 miles apart) called the "Cow and Calf". Very good diving on this reef with lots of deep ridges in the coral to look for sea creatures. Unfortually I can't remember the names of any dive shops in St John as we used one in the 'west end' of St. Thomas. But the town is very small and you can walk all of it and there are dive shops there. We did see them in town. If you are standing on the ferry pier looking at the shore, there is a resturant on the right side. There was a dive boat loading tanks right there, so they are easy to get to. They didn't have a dock, they just backed the boat up very close to the shore in a few feet of water. mike |

Much different from St Johns, Newfoundland! WRT to St John (no "S"), U S Virgin Islands... I agree with a prior post that the Calf and Cow is a good site. I have used the following dive shps on St John: Cruz Bay Watersports 340.776.6234 Located at the Westin hotel -- also pick up in town Low Key Watersports http://www.divelowkey.com 340.693.8999 Next to the passenger ferry dock Paradise Watersports http://www.paradisevi.com 340.693.8690 Located at Caneel Bay hotel All were fine, although Low Key does not have dock space -- you must wade (chest/armpit deep) to their boat. I would probably recommend Cruz Bay as my first choice, although Paradise is a close second. There is also Coral Bay Watersports 340.776.6850 (closest to the East End) I wanted to try diving the East End, but was never able to contact these people. -- Charlie Hammond -- Hewlett-Packard Company -- Ft Lauderdale FL USA (hammond@not@peek.ssr.hp.com -- remove "@not" when replying) All opinions expressed are my own and not necessarily my employer's. |
