The broker was a royal (French) asshole, but the consignees have been cool. "It ees for me to caire who faxes dee papers. If I dyo not get dem, you will sit at dee bor-daire and rot, American trucker peeg-dog" The shipper faxes the PARS on Thursday, they lost it, I refaxed on Sunday, they lost it again, and I had to do the whole routine at the border. For people that don't believe in tipping, they sure don't mind -getting- tipped. They have no concept of what Pepperoni is, or (pre-packaged) deli sandwiches, and seem to be about 20 yrs behind the curve in resealable food packaging. Asphalt for highways seems to be a precious commodity as well. All the Canadian truckers have been cool, and helpful. I was looking for a Canadian MCA in the rack, and there wasn't one. A Canadian trucker found them in a different place after I had left, and walked out to my truck with it to see if it was what I wanted. Pretty decent. Most places convert your money, but some places flatly refuse to do it, and rip you off. I'm sure if the rate difference was inverted, they'd find the time. They arranged for two nice storms (so far) while I'm here. |

On thing that I noticed differently up there was the the milk was sold in bags instead of the jug-type containers that we see here in the US... Not sure what the logic is about that though... Definitely milk is more expensive up there for whatever reason... |

They have to import all of their milk... it's not like milkable animals would be able to live in that environment. I suppose it would work if you wanted all of your milk frozen... |

Actually, the Vikings raised cows in their Greenland colonies for a period of time before the colonies themselves went belly-up. One of the things that archelogical research has found from the size of the stalls was that they might have evolved to the smallest cows in the world. See: "Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed" (2005) by Jared Diamond; I consider it the logical sequel to his "Guns, Germs & Steel" (1999). -hh |

They got the coolest road signs: "There's an intersection ahead" "Slow down, or you'll die quick" No shit. And they know what hot water is, -fuckin- -scalding-, everywhere I've been (excellent), and they don't drive like pussies in inclement weather like most Americans. |

Years of practise. On the other hand I'd rather see the uninitiated drive like pussies in snowy conditions than blunder around as if they actually know what they're doing. JF |

The goats up here are very hardy. I was trying to be funny. Apparently it wasn't as funny as I thought. |
