Looking for shore diving

We are planning a trip to the caribbean sometime this winter.
I'm looking for someplace with easy access to shore diving,
preferably right on the hotel property. The other requirement
is introductory lessons at the hotel since my kids will
be looking to try scuba for the first time.

Any recommendations?

IMHO, Bonaire can't be beat for shore diving. The reef starts about a 2
minute swim off shore in most places; usually no current with good
visibility. Look through bonaireinfo.com and bonairetalk.com for some
great information.

Look at places like Bonaire and Curacao. Most of the ops down there have some
form of "walk-off-the-beach" diving.

you could do some research on http://www.shorediving.com

they have a seperate link for each island and dive sites.


Other than that, I would suggest looking at Bonaire. The
entire island is set up for shore diving and have all sites
well marked.

Anse Chastanet in St. Lucia had very nice shore diving and some nice
looking lodging on premises when I was there for a cruise.

Anse Chastanet is a beautiful, laid-back place. It is said to be
a lot like much of the carribean was before World War II. I hope
to return some day.

Two possible negatives are:

No A/C. Rooms are very open to take advantage of breezes. From this
standpoint, the highr up, the better.

And a serious climb -- many steps -- from the beach to the main
reception/restaurant -- plus more climb to the rooms above.
Beach level rooms are easier to get to/from, but do not get
much benefit from breezes.
