| We're porting in Costa Maya for a day while on a NCL cruise in later this month. Any suggestions on diving there? |

| Where are you docking? Costa Maya is sort of like saying you're visiting California or the Riviera. JS wrote: > We're porting in Costa Maya for a day while on a NCL cruise in later > this month. Any suggestions on diving there? |

| I believe the cruise ship lines are now referring to Majahual as "Costa Maya." It's questionable if you will have time to dive Chinchorro Banks but the diving in the area is interesting. | I just got back from a HAL cruise Dec 30-Jan 3. We stayed in Costa Maya. I didn't dive, but I did snorkel. [I am a certified diver. I've been diving in the Cayman Islands, Kona (Hawaii) and Maui. However, I was traveling with non-divers and wanted to spend the time with them, so I just went snorkeling on this trip.] Here's my $0.02: - The coral was great. Easily the best coral/fish life of the trip (Key West, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and HAL's island in the Bahamas). Of all the places I visited, I wanted most to go back here & go diving. - I often see people advising "make your own arrangements" to divers on large cruise ships. After having had my first experience being on a cruise, I can see why. However, Costa Maya is so small & so poor, that I doubt there is anyone else to make arrangements with. It's not like Cozumel or Key West. There are the schlocky tourist shops at the end of the dock and then what looks like a lot of jungle. If you do find a dive op, I'd be interested in hearing about it because it looks like an interesting place to go on a diving vacation. If I had it to do over again, I'd definitely dive there. |

| i just got back from Akumel a few days ago (60 miles south of cancun). you are right, the coral is in great shape, fish life is good, but not a lot of big things. i dove with Aquatech and stayed at their Villas LaRosa. http://www.cenotes.com/ elliott Elaine May wrote: > I just got back from a HAL cruise Dec 30-Jan 3.
