| Hello! I'm Italian (so sorry for my bad English) and it's the first time I write on this NG. I've booked for this August two weeks at Sipadan - Pulau Sipadan Resort. I have used google and I've found any kind of information about dive sites, but I didn't find any recent information about this resort, and some italian divers told me that this resort is not so good, they prefere the newer ones (like Abdillha or Mabul resort), even if the Pulau Sipadan resort is on wonderfull drop off.. Thank you in advance for your kind information and assurances. Bye Bye Simonetta |

My views of Sipadan and close Island resorts differ from other contributors in here but....... To dive the reefs of Sipadan you dont have to stay on the Island itself. There are other resorts nearby, there is the Island of Mabul, 10-15 minutes by boat and Kapali is probably the same, not having stayed on any of the Islands i cant comment on them except to say that they look ok, where i have stayed and will be staying in 11 days time is WWW.seaventuresdives.com My earlier comments will give you some idea of costs, i think they are very good, $1000 US for transport, 10 nights full board accomodation and 3 boat dives daily and unlimited house reef diving. Alchohol you have to pay for...... This resort is based on an old "Oil Platform", it may not be everyone's 5* luxury but it all adds to the excitement and adventure, the food on here is excellent and the staff are very friendly. It is currently in my plans that I will be staying on Sipadan and Mabul, in late spring. I shall write a trip report upon my return. At this time, it is my intention to stay at Borneo Divers' Sipadan Island Resort and the Water Village at Mabul. Hopefully, when I write it up, it won't be too late to be of some benefit to you. |

| they have one dive there that is a MUST see, and is a world-class dive....that is the "hanging coral" one. I've dived all over the world and never have seen anything like it. Hey chilly bean, I just heard back from my friends tonite and here is what they had to say in response to your other question that we spoke about : "Re: your Sipidan question - you got me there. I would have said hook her up with the dive shop we used to deal with the most but we heard not too long ago they closed up as did the other shop we occasionally dealt with. S'pore has gone through some tough times plus there was a law change that effected all the dive shops and whether or not they could legally book travel so I no longer know who to recommend. However, the more reputable resorts are probably bookable over the internet as would be airfare. Just have her make sure whatever she books includes transport from the airport out to the islands. It's not close! All three of the islands have resorts of varying $$ and amenities, although I believe none have AC and as you well know, it is hot! Staying on either of the other islands provides muck diving (that's what we did and still had 2 dives a day on Sipidan itself) and I have heard some of the Sipidan resorts will occasionally do the reverse. If staying on Sipidan we were told be close to the jetty as it is a haul with gear otherwise. Lastly there is a fairly new liveaboard there now too. Hope this helps." |
