BTW, he died of malaria from that trip a year or so later. Hi Dennis, Thanks for the corrections! I mean it sincerely. It's not like the nitpickin' grammar and spelling kind I get in rec.scuba.* Let me preface the rest by saying what's important to ME is the IDEA behind what this man said and what this man was, in the CONTEXT of what I posted. I would have looked up the exact dates of events, and other NON-ESSENTIAL details, as I did now, if they were important in my discussion paragraph in the first place. Not an excuse. Just a FACT about how *I* operate and how *I* view IDEAS over nonessential details. That having said ... I stand corrected on the FDR ERROR. The keyboard devil made me do it. I could have been testing if there are readers who know more than me in my weakest subject for that matter, because the only thing anyone learned from history is that no one learned anything from history -- Churchill or some other historian was credited with that saying. Again, it's the IDEA that no one learned anything from that's important to me. You can look up the web for the exact quote or the historian who actually said that. > And Teddy Roosevelt died of a coronary embolism, about 5 years after > exloring in Brazil. > http://www.theodoreroosevelt.org/life/timeline.htm I am also error prone on historical dates because they are even less useful than historical facts themselves. Thus, I stand corrected on the exact chronology and dates. The Amazon Expedition was in 1913-14. My "year or two" was like the Mexican 10 minutes (which means at least 30 minutes). so it was indeed FIVE years (not a year or two) after the Amazon Expedition. As for the cause of his death, it was a matter of proximate cause versus remote cause. In the account below, Teddy's death was caused by his "recurring malaria" after the Expedition, till his death. The autopsy "cause" could have been caused by the "recurring malaria". Both are obviously causally linked to Teddy's death. The coronary cause was more likely linked to his professional stress as a politician and president, and adventurous explorer, for that matter. The "recurring malaria" cause makes more sense and relates more to Teddy's adventures, at least to Teddy HIMSELF, as he was quoted on the heavy toll of his Brazilian trip: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/ice/sfe...roosevelt.html > The trip exacted a heavy toll on the once indefatigable Theodore Roosevelt. > Writing to a friend, TR confessed, "The Brazilian wilderness stole away 10 > years of my life." He never fully recovered his prior vigor and was > troubled by recurring malaria until his death in 1919. Note to the spelling-grammar-syntax nitpicking specialists in this ng, I am sure it's a gold mine here for that. about it. -- Bob. |

DimWits are just DimWits. They are unable to think or reason. Has nothing to do with misspellings, imperfect recall of dates that are inconsequential and non-essential in a conversation, such as posts in THIS forum. even geniuses much smarter than me make those. As long as they acknowledge "stand corrected" when pointed out, they are just what they are, mistakes that can be made by anyone. > > > > I stand corrected on the FDR ERROR. > > You missed my point about non=essential details. I explained to you TWICE already and cited a webpage which attributed the cause to his recurring Malaria. You keep insisting that the cause HAS to mean the blood clod. This is a rhetorical argument for ARGUMENT sake. Have you heard of MULTIPLE CAUSES not necessarily one cauing the other/ You are mental-blocked into the idea of "causal chain" and "immediate cause". The idea of MULTIPLE causes, not causally linked, would seem to apply to Teddy's death -- that would be the scientific and logician's way of putting it. > Pretty straightforward, right? Yes, if you studied or understood the LOGIC of CAUSATION. I have taught it in classes, and published scientific articles on that very subject.
