| I am going to the Keys in about 2 weeks. What kind of wetsuit do I want? Right now the water temp is 75~76. Thanks, Doug |

Its the boat trip back to the dock where most of the divers who dive with me get cold. The water temp was 77° F today .. visibility was 80-100 feet at Looe Key. -- Jim Wyatt PADI Master Instructor #4612/IANTD Instructor Florida Keys Reef-Divers, Inc. www.reef-divers.com |

| I'm diving with six mils and a hood right now. Don't like the cold winter water. But keep in mind that even in the summer in the keys I dive a 3/2 full suit. Mostly for sun protection. The water has been awsome the past few days. -- keyspearfisher ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Posted via DeeperBlue.net - Your Online Resource for the UnderWater World. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ keyspearfisher's Profile: http://forums.deeperblue.net/member....fo&userid=1190 View this thread on DeeperBlue.net: http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthr...threadid=49045 ----== Posted via Newsfeed.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeed.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! >100,000 Newsgroups ---= 19 East/West-Coast Specialized Servers - Total Privacy via Encryption =--- |

| I am going to be diving for 5 days. Should I do ahead and spend a little more and buy a wetsuit or just rent one? Doug |

| If you're driving, you can get a nice one at one of the discount dive stores on the way to the Keys. If flying, you might as well rent. Then again, do you have any use for it afterwards? You can do the math. chilly wrote: > "Doug Schaible" <dougjrs@kc.rr.com> wrote in message > news:d5854317.0403310828.efe4660@posting.google.co m... > >>I am going to be diving for 5 days. | I am sure that I can find a use for it again. What I was looking at is that I am going to spend at least $50 to rent one. If I can spend $55 and buy one that would be a good deal. Although I am not sure what kind or how thick I would need. Is there a guide for that or is it just personal perf? Thanks, Doug |

It is probably personal preference but I believe that a 2 mm full suit will suit most of your needs. I dive a 3 mm full suit even when diving in waters as warm as 84F, but then I am usually doing continuous dives daily. > Thanks, Have a great time. |

Mostly, it's a matter of personal cold tolerance. I can dive anywhere in Florida, any time of year, in a 3mm wetsuit. My wife, on the other hand, starts shivering about 20 minutes into a dive in 68 F water in a wetsuit just like mine. One of my dive buddies, a member of this group in fact, dives a 5mm (I think that's what it is) in Florida in the summer. For a wetsuit to do you any significant good, it has to fit right. It should be snug enough that water does not flow in and out, but not so snug that it cuts off circulation or makes breathing difficult. The best way to ensure a good fit is to own the suit you wear. How thick a suit you buy will depend on how warm you want to be and how much flexibility (and money) you're willing to give up to be that warm. All else being equal, a thicker suit will be more restrictive than a thinner one. Lee |
