| Has anyone dived the Red Sea from Marsa Shagra? What were the facilities like? Thinking about going there in June with Oonas but wondering what the temperatures are like. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA, Tom. |

You can dive overthere 24 houres a day. Splended dives from the beach, beautiful corals, lots of fishes, nice watertemperature - in Februari about 22-23 degrees centigrades, in June about 26-27. The depth between 2 and 33 meter. Visibility sometime in the bay 5 meter (at night) outside; 20 - 30 meter You can use a zodiac to drop you North or South at a distance of 1 or 2 hours swimming back to the coast. When your tank is empty and you are at the surface, use your deco-buoy and the people come to bring you back ashore. You can live in a tent on the beach, or in a kind of bungalow. The food is okay, but be careful with uncooked or unbaked food, you can understand when the airtemperature in June is at least 35 degrees, that the number of bacteria's grow superfast. But don't worry, there is a excellent doctor and i know it by experience, who is connected at the DECO-centre. He is doing the first day a briefing about avoiding deco-sickness etc. If you are an experienced diver, you can go by zodiac to Elphinstone-reef (? 25,-), to see the most beautiful reef I know, to struggle against the current from the North and to look at gray reef sharks, oceanic white-tips, silvertips, blacktips, maybe hammerheads. The innerside of Dolphinhouse (sha'ab Samaday) is closed for divers and snorklers, I think it is extreem expensive (? 35 boating + ? 15 marinepark fee) to see nothing. I was very disappointed. Have a nice time there and good dives, lots of bubbles. Henk Vos, The Netherlands |
