But it is hard to drive to the Caribbean.

I got Nitrox certified at Ocean Divers. Large boats, but a good
operation. Some find the larger boats more comfortable, others don't
like the large number of other divers. Since you and your buddy dive
together in the Keys, it is less of an issue than where you have to
follow the dive master in the water.

I'd call and see what it looks like for your dates. My guess is that
someone will have room on their boat when you want to go out.

Jason,

I have dove with Ocean Divers on two different trips. I thought they
cattle boats. Now this was back several years ago '90, and '94.

I would not dive with the again, and I would probably just go to
Islamorada - I thought the diving was better there.

Each time I was in Key Largo the weather was horrible, and the seas were
quite rough. One of the trips on the big dive boats must have had 9-10
people hanging over the side.

hmmmmm....ok, so the fairly well preserved reefs of the Keys don't compare
with the completely pulverized reefs of such over dove places as Grand
Cayman and Cozemul ? ....not to mention that you hardly see a fish in the
eastern Caribbean.......

go to the Bahamas....while technically in the Atlantic, best diving the area
IMO
