Default Dive Operator--Maui

Looking for a recommendation on a dive operator for Maui, preferably Kehei
or Lahaina based.

Mike Severns - http://www.mikesevernsdiving.com/

Ed Robinson - http://www.mauiscuba.com/erd1.htm

I've dove with Mike Severens diving and had a great time. They don't
like to take out anyone with less than 25 dives (post certification),
so there's a lot less hand holding and a lot more freedom to dive as
you like. Ed Robinson diving is also highly recommended by many (do a
Goggle search on Maui and both names consistantly come up as
excellent).

Both are in Kehei.

I can't recommend anyone in Lahaina, but I personally had an extremely
bad experience with Lahaina Divers. OK cattleboat for beginners, but
after diving with "Capt. Alain" once, I vowed never to dive again with
an organization that would hire such a flaming asshole. The fact that
they offer nitrox but restrict its use to shallow, hard bottom sites
tells you the kind of divers they cater to.

Mike Severns was terrific with our party of five on dives over several
dives.. Pauline Fiene Severns led most of our dives and was immensely
knowledgeable. We have since recommended them to others several times
and heard the most glowing reports afterward.

I dove with Ed Robinson out of Kehei earlier this year. They provided
some of the best pre-dive talks about marine life I've had anywhere.
Great group of people.

I can 2nd the Ed Robinson recommendation but make sure you get on a boat
that does not have Ricardo on it. he is the worst DM I have ever seen.

I've always gone out with Mike Severns. Never had a bad dive or a bad
DM.

I think that of those they are everywhere. In this group there are
hundreds, if not thousands. In every dive boat I have found many among
crew and customers alike.

Strongly second Alan, in the same order of preference as listed.

Alan Street <agstreet@nonono_san.rr.com> pounded away at his keyboard
resulting in:
: OK cattleboat for beginners, but
:after diving with "Capt. Alain" once, I vowed never to dive again with
:an organization that would hire such a flaming asshole.

In what way is it ok for beginners?
