| Hello, My family of five is looking for some suggestions for a Florida scuba diving trip over Easter break. My wife and I have logged a fair number of dives, but this would be the first scuba experience for our eldest, a 13 year old daughter. We'd do the classroom stuff here in Denver and would like the open water part in an actual ocean. We also have two little ones (five and two) who would enjoy a beach and lodging with a pool. Ideally we're looking for inexpensive lodging on a nice beach that's not far from a dive operator. This would be a weeklong trip that does NOT include Disney World :). Thanks in advance for the help. Mike McGuire P.S. How badly has the diving been affected by the hurricanes? |

Thanks in advance for the help. You can get the beach and pool pretty much anywhere along the east coast of S. Florida. Ditto for the checkout dives in the ocean. It would be silly for anybody down here to do them in confined water. Inexpensive lodging, however, is not as easy. You probably need to stay away from the tourist spots. They won't be inexpensive. That pretty much rules out anything in the Keys, Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas as well as Boca Raton and oceanfront West Palm Beach. Check out accomodations in Pompano, Delray and Boynton. > P.S. How badly has the diving been affected by the hurricanes? The ocean's still there. Some things have moved around the bottom a bit, but there's always something nice to look at. Lee |

| In Key Lagro try diving with Jeff jarvis on the HMS Minnow, a 6 pack boat so you're never crowded also he'll go where the crodws arent. you can contact him on www.hmsminnow.com Middle Keys ~ Big Pine dive with Underseas Inc on Big Pine Key, excellent service and a really friendly family atmosphere, they do Looe Key and the Augustus Busch once in a while (dependant upon skills). You can stay across the road at the Big Pine Motel, which can also serve as a base for trips to Key West without incurring the costs of staying 30 miles further down the road. In Key West I would head to the dive shop down on A&B Marina, I forget it's name but they're the best of the lot down there. We lived there 5 years and I instructed on dive boats Key West to Key Largo, just my $0.02 worth |
