| We are just thinking about booking a holiday for early next year and are toying with the idea of either St Lucia or Malaysia. Ideally I would like to be able to dive in the morning (so just a short distance from a hotel) and then we would play golf or laze on the beach in the afternoon. Any recommendations? We are looking for good quality hotels and location. Thanks |

| have you ever heard of the Bali/Handara Golf Course? I'm not a golfer -- but it is a drop-dead beautiful course on the island of Bali (Indonesia) and I believe you can "purchase" a membership there. Wealthy people come from all over Asia to play that course and I can see why. I happen to stay a night in one of their cottages which was very nice so got a look at the place. I think you can walk/drive in there and rent one of those cottages (if they are available). The course is not near Kuta where so many died in that terrorist blast of a night club. I wouldn't have gone near Kuta with a ten foot pole anyway which was a cheap playground for Australian tourists. I stayed in Sanur. Kuta would not have been my kind of scene -- cheap nightclubs, vulgar people.. But one could presumably have a car and driver (I always did in Bali) and play golf in the morning and then be wisked away to a dive operation for afternoon diving. I think the Bali Handara Country Club course was designed by some famous Scottsman (didn't they invent the game) -- I'm not a golfer but just to see that Bali Hondara Golf course is a treat in itself .....with its spectacular landscaping and flora. I mean, it is one of the most inviting places I've ever been. | Hawaii is hard to beat for surf and turf. Have a look at the hotels and resorts in Kapalua, Ka'anapali and Wailea (all on Maui) or Waikoloa (Big Island) if you want good quality. Best wishes Peter Forster |

| Don't forget Kihei (also on Maui), I just got back from there and it was great. I had a cold, so couldn't go diving, but met some golfers at the airport who loved it. The Berjaya hotel is the best on Tioman although not up to the standards of some in Bali, Phuket, Krabi etc (all of which may work). There is a dive site 2 mins from the hotel and several within 1/2 hour, the hotel also has it's own golf course. Monsoon finishes around feb (check any Singapore dive shop itinerary for when it re-opens - no-one goes during monsoon) so may depend what you mean by early. |

bermuda actually isnt that cold in the summer. I was diving a lot this past summer without any thermal protection. I only put on a wetsuit for abrasion protection on some wreck dives or when the weather had be bad for a day or so. -- drunkinbda ------------------------------------------------------------------------ drunkinbda's Profile: http://forums.deeperblue.net/member....fo&userid=3227 View this thread: http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthr...threadid=57094 |
