| Any internet-knowledgeable folks care to comment on this mesage from AOL??? "Please Note: The AOL Newsgroup service will be discontinued in early 2005. For members using AOL over a dial-up connection, you will no longer be able to access Newsgroups. If you have a separate high-speed connection, you can contact your broadband provider to see if they offer Newsgroups. Newsgroup services can often be accessed through a third party reader, such as Mozilla Thunderbird (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/thunderbird/). Alternatively, you can access Newsgroups via Google at http://groups.google.com/. We apologize for this inconvenience." |

Yeah, it means that AOL has decided that the cost of maintaining a news server isn't worth it for the 0.1% of their users who post to Usenet. |

This sounds highly unlikely. Check it out to make sure it's not just someone messing with AOL. 2. If it's true, find another service. those who are "internet-knowledgeable" rarely chose AOL anyway. Given that most ISPs have about the same ratio, it's a wonder anyone invests in providing the service. Dan Bracuk If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure. |

I suspect it's only a matter of time (two years comes to mind) before most ISPs drop Usenet as an included service. |

I used Mozilla Thunderbird to store all my usenet stuff and http://news.individual.net/ to get the usenet connection. It's free and I haven't had any posting problems. For dive specific groups, ScubaMonster.com lists things and I believe you can post from there as well. M@ |
