Default Re: __ Americans become a Pox abroad __

Have no idea what this has to do with diving or why Ms. Denver decided
to post this article here in the first place except to promulgate her
own anti-US sentiments, but since it seems I'm one of the few people on
this thread who actually supports Bush, I'll put myself out there:

You don't (or shouldn't would be the better term) make decisions in
your personal life based on whether people or going to like you or not,
do you? Why should it be any different for a country? Europeans and
others don't like us anymore? Well, that's too bad. I'm sorry they
feel that way, but that's no reason to change our policies. If our
policies end up not working, ok fine, then change something. I mean,
what would you have us do, take a european opinion poll before we do
anything? It's too early to tell whether Bush's foreign policy
decisions were the best choices, and it may be 10-20 years before we'll
have enough distance to properly and objectively make that assessment,
but so far there are about 24 million Iraqi's and what, 14 million
Afghans that have held their first democratic elections in the history
of their countries.

This whole thing (most of this thread) is also being presented as if
Europeans all of a sudden turned on us. Europe, and especially France,
has a long history of disliking the U.S. Remember when France wouldn't
let us fly over their beloved cafe airspace when Reagan bombed
Quadaffi's headquarters in Libya? I don't know why they're so jealous
or bitter with us, but quite frankly, that's not going to affect how I
vote and it should definitely never affect the decisions of any US
President. I'm quite certain if the roles were reversed, they wouldn't
give a rat's hide what we thought of their foreign policy, nor should
they.

We've shed more of our own blood for the freedom of others than any
nation in the history of the world and at the same time have had enough
power to probably take over a good portion of it if we wanted to.
Maybe some of these americo-shocked European tourists need to be
reminded they could all be carrying German passports.

I reckon this will ruffle some feathers, as the truth often does. I
welcome and promise to respond to any well-thought, civil
counter-arguments.
