Better go within the next month or two. The season is generally over by
October. That includes Ni'ihau which, for me, is the only reason to go to
Kaua'i. Of course, you can still drive down to the south shore.

Default Kauai's north shore - which months?

Hi...

We're thinking of renting a house on Kauai's north shore within the next few
months. What months are the best to dive on the north shore? Which months
are so so?

Thanks in advance,

Erik

p.s. we're looking for a nice house right on the beach, any suggestions?

Tunnels is a nice dive, though you're right, it doesn't touch Ni'ihau. Can
you get Ni'ihau charters from the north side or would they have to drive
around the island?

When we did it we left from Koloa. It was early in the season (only the
second trip channel conditions had allowed so far) and we lucked out and got
what they described as as good as it gets on the crossing. It wasn't bad at
all.

Nope. We've only been to Kauai once. We started the week with a boat dive
and decided that there was nothing to see worth $100 for 2 tanks so we
canceled the rest of the dives and just did shore dives and Ni'ihau. Koloa
is ok, at least as good as the boat dive. We enjoyed Tunnels quite a bit,
but again it's weather dependant. Assuming the dives get better heading
west from Tunnels it's probably a great dive.

I know of no op that leaves for Ni'ihau from the North Side. IIRC, from
Port Allen to Ni'ihau is 20 miles of some of the roughest water you will
ever cross in a small boat. From Princeville, I'd guess it would be a good
30+ miles along the Na Pali Coast and then out into the channel. It'd be
beautiful but probably not a lot of fun and who's paying for fuel and the
crew?

Have you ever dove off the Na Pali Coast? Like Ni'ihau, the conditions must
be just right to get there. I was wondering if there is anything there to
make it worth the trip.
