Funny you should mention that ... just writing a story about diving
and google maps. The reason that there is so much info on Great Lakes
Wrecks is that the Ontario Underwater Council launched a program a
couple of years ago where they posted alot of wreck information they
had in their files onto Google Maps. They did it in hopes that other
councils, clubs and associations, would put their accurate resource
info onto the site. Great idea. Catching on, I think. The wreck
info in Florida is so well documented it just takes somebody with time
on their hands ....

A cool idea, but as the database grows the file size may become
inconvenient. It may be an idea to split up the file by country, or
something like that, as it grows.

It may also be worth thinking about partnering with some of the other
groups which do this kinda thing. For example, their already is a
rather extensive database for Ontario, maintained by the Ontario
Underwater Council:

http://www.underwatercouncil.com/?ac...e=dive-ontario

I think shorediving.com is putting one together as well...
