| Greetings, we are two couples that are interested in traveling to T&Cs this winter for a week. Could any of you that have been there please recommend places to stay and also would appreciate knowing which dive operations to avoid. Thanks in advance. |

| Hello Arrow driver, from an Archer driver.... If you're condisering an all-inclusive, there are three primary resorts on T&C. Allegro: General, mid-range, resort Beaches: Very family oriented Club Med: Adults only (but not as 'wild' as you might expect a Club Med to be.) If you are all divers, I'd recommend Club Med (well, I would probably recommend it anyway) because they have their own very large dive operation. They have 2 or 3 (depending on the season) large (40+' steel catamarans) dive boats. The CM is probably not as 'upscale' as Beaches, but about comparable to the Allegro. (I haven't stayed at this Allegro, but have stayed at others.) For a 'review' of the Club Med, see my report at: http://www.hammocktree.org/ms/turkoise02/turk02.html There's a picture of one of the dive boats in the report. We don't dive, but other guests (GMs, in CM terminology) always have good things to say. If some of your group don't dive but do snorkle, there are two snorkel trips a day using a dedicated snorkle 'barge'. We've been there three times... So many nice places to stay, just make sure you stay on Grace Bay! Dive Operators are generally all the same. Except Big Blue, they charge twice as much for the same dive sites and store bought sandwiches I dove with Flamingo divers this summer. Go find their website...... They are very good. Check 'em out and tell Micky & Jayne that Chip & Dale sent ya! mtbchip |

Not twice as much though. The difference is that they cater to a more technical diver. Given that, I would class them as one of the best operators I've been diving with ANYWHERE. For people looking for more freedom and more technical diving, they're the best choice on Provo. >I dove with Flamingo divers this summer. Go find their website...... They >are very good. It has been a while, but in March, 1997, my wife and I stayed at the Turtle Cove Inn and dove with Provo Turtle Divers. There are/were at least two other dive shops close to the Inn -- Flamingo (which some on this group seem to like very much) and Turtle in Divers (Yes "IN" with one "n" - I've no idea why). There are/were also at least five restuarants within a short walk. Best hint -- get a "box lunch" (at the Tiki Hut restaurant in the Inn) and take it with you on your dive trips. Be prepaired for relatively deep dives. Except for some spots in Grace Bay, the boat will probably drop you in at least 40-60 feet near a wall that will likely go beyond recreational depth. I'll send you a copy of my trip report. Also, for diving you may find that Grand Turk is more to your liking. (The above relates to Provo.) BTW -- anybody know if the CLub Carib is still operating on South Caicos? Maybe under a new name? -- Charlie Hammond -- Hewlett-Packard Company -- Ft Lauderdale FL USA (hammond@not@peek.ssr.hp.com -- remove "@not" when replying) All opinions expressed are my own and not necessarily my employer's. |
