| Has anyone here dived in Vietnam recently? There are some operators in the Nha Trang area. Any others? Finally, is anyone interested in going? I mean seriously. gc |

| George, I tried diving in Nha Trang in 1995. The bottom was barren -- the coral was absolutely devastated. There were very few fish -- except for a few minnow-sized tropicals. Conditions were so abysmal that I gave up after one dive! This is the result of overfishing and fishing with dynamite and/or acid. I doubt there has been any improvement -- and certainly not enough improvement to justify. Sorry for this news. I'd love to hear about your experience should you decide to go. | Thanks, Alex. I'll certainly look into it carefully before going. Coral reefs don't regenerate quickly, so if it was like this 10 years ago, it's probably not better now. I've wanted to return to Vietnam again some day. Last time I was there at government expense. I thought it was a beautiful but tragic country, and I've wanted to see it without the, you know, war and stuff. Diving would be sort of a sidelight, but certainly not worth it if it's as you say. Thanks for the input. gc Alex Dives wrote: > George, > I tried diving in Nha Trang in 1995. The bottom was barren -- the > coral was absolutely devastated. | Friends who have been to Vietnam say that the country is beautiful and the people friendly. I don't know about the diving. George Cathcart wrote: > Thanks, Alex.
